Hydrogen
activities in Hamburg
Hamburgische Electricitätswerke
AG (HEW), a Hamburg based electric utility, currently plans or
realizes various hydrogen projects:
- Operation of two fuel
cell cogeneration units (both phosphoric acid fuel cells with a
power output of 200 kWe each) in
cooperation with Hamburger Gaswerke GmbH (Hamburg based
gas utility). One of units is operated with natural gas,
the other with liquid hydrogen
- Participation in GHW
development of high performance electrolyzers (GHW
Gesellschaft für Hochleistungselektrolyseure zur
Wasserstofferzeugung mbH company for high
performance electrolyzers for hydrogen production)
- Participation in a consortium
for internal combustion engine propelled compressed hydrogen
fueled vans in
Hamburg (fleet test of six vehicles after modification to
hydrogen use) and erection of a hydrogen fueling station
- System studies
- Participation in the project
Development and operation of hydrogen fueled vehicles for Munich
Airport"
In agreement with the Hamburg
Senate, HEW spends in average some 2 to 3 mio DM
annually for these activities within the time range of 1992 to
1999.
