Fuel Cell Buses in Chicago

HyWeb, 97-03-24: For 1997, the start of a 2 to 3 year demonstration activity with 12 m Ballard PEM fuel cell transit buses in Chicago is planed. The operation shall provide experience with respect to the suitability of the buses for everyday public bus service under climatic conditions typical for Chicago.

In case the operation is accomplished successfully and if it can be proven that the buses can be delivered competitively, Chicago considers replacement of 2000 buses by fuel cell buses.
