Project Description and Objectives: |
Programme to considerably reduce the cost of the GHW high performance electrolyzer technology (1/4 m˛ cells, pressure electrolyzer 32 bar, operating temperature 150°C, current density 10 kA/m˛) by identifying the cost driving components and technologies, determination of alternatives, evaluation of alternatives with respect to cost and benefit and by back up experiments. Using catalysts the operating temperature could be reduced below 100°C without losing the performance of the electrolyzer. At this lower temperature, cheaper polymers for injection molded cell frames and cheaper polymer bonded oxide ceramic diaphragmes can be used. The balance of plant can be built out of austenitic steel instead of high nickel alloys. |
