Project Description and Objectives:

The objective of this activity is to foster acceptance of hydrogen. In a first step, acceptance problems and missing or false information in the broad public are determined. In a second step, the scientific, technical and economic state of the art in those areas where acceptance problems have been revealed are presented and the results are disseminated via the Internet and other appropriate media.
A survey of passengers of the worldwide first hydrogen bus in public service has been carried out in the framework of its demonstration in Munich from April until November 1997. The goal is to determine acceptance problems and their reasons. In addition, secondary level school students have been interviewed in detail concerning hydrogen technologies as they are an important group extending over all social levels. This permits a better interpretation of the results of the passenger survey. Furthermore, it reveals information on existing knowledge about hydrogen and on personal risk assessments concerning energy consumption, the resources depletion problem, emissions and global warming. The recently developed Internet presentation on hydrogen HyWeb is an appropriate means for disseminating the results of the present investigation.
